Jeffery Ryan Hopkins

Nigerian Romance Scam

Potomac, Maryland

Started emailing me, telling me he saw my profile and picture on a dating site and loved my picture. Started emailing me, slowly at first, then more frequently then all the time. Told me he was raising his son alone, he was 14, his wife died giving birth to their child. After about five weeks he told me to pray for him because he had a contract that he was hoping to win, he had to go to California. Then he called and said he won the bid. Then he said he had to go to Malaysia for three weeks for the job and when he came back he would be able to retire. He told me God brought us together, he knows I am a christian, and he was going to marry me, he had his "son" send me emails. He really stole my heart. My son-in-law informed me of the Nigerian romance scams and I did not want to believe this of Jeff. I started investigating and my heart is broken to realize that I have been scammed. I still don't want to believe it and have tried to give him the benefit of a doubt, but, he is not willing to give me any proof, so, what would that leave you to believe? The phone number he gave to me....704-990-6856 ...I can never reach him unless he tells me to call him...so I did a reverse phone check and it is registered to a person named Fred Wellington. Then another phone number he gave me 601-628-1708, I can not reach him and it is registered in vicksburg MS....so watch out for this person.....he is smoothe....and gives a goooooood line and is very convincing. He has left me devastated, hurt and unable to believe in myself. I am going through a divorce and my self esteem is already depleted....this just put me over the edge. Will I ever find true love????

THIS IS 100% SCAM!! I know you want to believe this is true, but this type of SCUM prey on women like you. You can't be desperate, but develop a strong sense of selfworth. Love yourself first and SCREW OFF men like this. It's nothing more than an expensive fairy tale. Unfortunately these scams are not new and have been around for years. They are called "sweetheart scams" (Google it for more guys). MOST of these guys are from Nigeria, but say they are from the US doing business overseas. They fall instantly in love with you and then start asking for money. They usually say they are widowers and have a kid. And yes, they troll the dating sites and pay for memberships. Best to only date/meet local people and don't buy into the stories that they are overseas on business. And NEVER send them money!!
I am so sorry to hear of this. I too just went through the same thing. I wanted so much to believe I sent him 4000.00 look just because we are divorced and maybe a little older doesn't mean we have to settle. I am sorry but I beleve the old sayng now. If it sounds like a fairytale and feels like a fairytale. It IS A FAIRY TALE. I believe people like this are sent straight from the devil to divert us from our work for the Lord Hold on as I will this too shall pass and when we feel lonely we must ask for his presence with us to protect and keep us. I am sooo sorry .
Do not beat up on yourself. It has happened to a lot more women out there than is really known. I met a scammer named Michael Pitts. He claimed to be German. Claimed to be a widower. Claimed to be a gold buyer. He had to go to Africa on business and guess what ??his 14 year old son went with him. Then an emergency came up and would I please send $400???? Of course Not. They are good. Really really good. They steal photos of real people and they go to to work. I will list of top things to look for when a scammer comes along.
You will get through this.
